Southeast Tour 06/2010

Day 4, Sunday 6/20/2010

Upon waking up in the morning I found that my daughter had been kidnapped by aliens and replaced by a dinosaur having a very small head but a large body under the covers...

After a satisfactory continental breakfast we were on the road by 7:42 local time... Destination roads unknown, and Troutville VA, Red Roof Inn with pool and Jacuzzi.

And more playing hide and seek with the camera lens...

And needless to say, more fantastic roads, scenery, and great weather.  Speaking of the weather, aside from that ugly cloud the other day, it was clear and sunny and this morning it was even a bit cooler.  No complaints.

Lunch was at Sonic rather than McDonald's.  We ordered and they came out with two of everything.  Since it was their error, they said we could have all the food, I just needed to pay for my original order... Cool... mid-afternoon snacks... few minutes later the girl came back with my credit card and said they didn't know what the system was doing, they couldn't ring up the transaction... and they let us have all the food for free... alright then... dig in...

During the lunch discussion the daughter and I were talking about our little water crossing.  One of the roads we went on followed a river, which obviously had flooded, because all the people near the road had all their belongings in piles along the road, and there was still sand in various places on the road. At one point there was water running across the road, I'd say about a 10 foot long section.  The road was tilted toward the river slightly and our lane was pooling up.  So, I stayed close to the center line and went through it... got quite a wake coming up... my daughter told me she had her shield open and the water splashed up into her helmet... I guess that woke her up.  The road actually got pretty bad and then we got to a point where a crew was working on it trying to clean it up.  They said I could go through, but the asphalt was in bad shape, so I opted to detour.

Again, the roads were fantastic overall, and even the highways had some beautiful scenery.

And then more side roads and sitting at rest stops...

Even caught daughter smiling!

I've said it before but I have to say it again; the roads were crazy.

We got to the Red Roof Inn, got settled in, did some swimming, I spent some time in the Jacuzzi, and we finished the day off with a veggie pizza...

Good day.
