Wife and I flew out the night of the 26th, to arrive in Vegas really early in the morning... it was something like 2:00 or 3:00 am, our time, by the time we arrived at the hotel.
Honestly, I'm not really a Vegas kind of guy... don't really drink and/or get stupid (well, I do get stupid but drinking is not involved), don't gamble, and I'm not real impressed by the shows... at least I'm not willing to plunk down the kind of money they want for the shows to see if I'm impressed by them. But, the wife likes to gamble, so what the heck... never been there... might as well check it out. I got to pick the hotel, and I picked it based on the pool... cause I figured that's what I'd be doing... swimming and laying by the pool. So, we ended up at the Flamingo, one of the older hotels on the strip, but arguably the best pools on the strip.
So, as I said, we got our asses to our hotel room late... Sandy went to throw some money at the Casino and I went to bed, cause the pools weren't open at 3:00 am, and my ass was tired, as is obvious by the photo below (tired ass wearing sunglasses at 3:00 am... need I say more):
...love the Flamingo Pink, fuzzy, bed spread...
Here's a night shot of the other wing of the hotel from our room...
That morning we got up when we felt like it, to a beautiful clear sky...
The round thingies are the roof of the hotel restaurant, which overlooks the tropical paradise in the courtyard. There is actually an animal habitat, and the pool further to the left of this photo. Quite the setup. After breakfast we took a walk and admired some of the animals. My son tells me these are Coy (Koy?)... These babies were about a foot and a half long, and there were dozens of them in various yellow, pink, orange, white, black shades...
And of course what else would you have at the Flamingo, but Flamingos...
After our little walk Sandy went off to the Casino and I went off to the pool... I probably should have taken some pictures of the pool, but you can see tons of Flamingo pool pictures all over the internet... just go to google and type in "Flamingo Pool Images". It's not a pool... it's at least five different pools, with waterfall, multiple levels, cabanas, cabana girls, most people with drink in hand.. I actually had trouble finding an empty lounge chair, but did manage to find one by the upper level oval pool, and proceeded to lounge around for several hours and soak up the sun.
Sandy and I then took a couple hours to visit one of the smaller Casino's on the strip before coming back to the the Flamingo to have dinner at one of the restaurants. In this case it was Carlos'n Charlie's Las Vegas. Where the first thing you notice is the unusual bar stools... which look pretty funny when guys are sitting on them... And those big green glasses are the Big Mamma Margaritta glasses....
The food was good, but the entertainment was even better. The bar tenders would blow a whistle every time a new patron walked up to the bar. They also did various juggling acts with cups and bottles of booze... one bar tendress in particular (actually the one on the bar in the photo below) was juggling three bottles at a time. They also had a microphone, and passed it around to people so they could make fools of themselves and sing along with the songs playing on the loudspeakers. But the best part was when some bar song came on the loudspeakers and practically the entire staff and some of the customers broke out doing some dance that resembled the Macarena...
Well, after the food and entertainment, we had an hour or so before sunset, so we took a ride out to the Red Rock Canyon... to see some red rocks of course...
Yeah, we managed to snag a Mustang convertible from Fox Rental, for a nominal upcharge, but actually the seats on that car are just uncomfortable... We figured there's no way we could do over 2000 miles of driving in it. So, after driving it around Vegas we decided to trade it in for a Ford Fusion, which turned out to be a good move, cause the Fusion got an overall average of 36 miles/gallon... wohoo...
Anyway, Red Rock Canyon is beautiful and less than a half hour drive from the strip.
And when the sun set we went back to the strip and visited another Casino... Ok, I was impressed by some of the architecture... and what a contrast to the natural surroundings.
And on the way back to the hotel we messed around with the camera and the lights...
